Thread lift at The Skin Project

Thread lift is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that uses absorbable threads inserted beneath the skin to provide subtle lifting and stimulate the skin's natural collagen response over time. The threads are made from materials commonly used in surgical sutures and are gradually absorbed by the body over months.

At The Skin Project Clinics by Doctors, thread lift treatments are performed by qualified medical practitioners after a detailed assessment of your skin laxity, facial structure, and treatment goals. Not every client is a suitable candidate — thread lift works best for mild to moderate skin laxity in specific facial areas.

Common treatment areas

  • Mid-face (cheek lift)
  • Jawline definition
  • Brow lift
  • Neck (lower face contouring)

What the treatment involves

A thread lift session typically takes 45–90 minutes. The treatment area is numbed with local anaesthetic. Threads are inserted under the skin using fine needles, then positioned to create the lift effect. You'll experience mild discomfort during the procedure but pain is generally well-managed with the local anaesthetic.

Recovery typically involves mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness for 5–14 days. You'll need to avoid extreme facial movements (wide smiling, yawning) for 2 weeks, sleep on your back with head elevated for 1 week, and avoid facial massage or treatments for 4 weeks.

Visible lift is often noticeable immediately, with results refining over 8–12 weeks as the collagen response develops. Result duration varies between individuals — generally 12–18 months.

Important considerations

  • Thread lift addresses mild to moderate skin laxity — it is NOT a replacement for surgical facelift in significant laxity cases
  • Results vary between individuals and depend on factors including skin quality, age, and lifestyle
  • Thread lift carries surgical-level risks despite being non-surgical, including infection, thread migration, asymmetry, and rare more serious complications
  • Suitability is determined during a detailed consultation
  • Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Smoking and certain medical conditions can affect healing and suitability

Risks and suitability are discussed in full during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is thread lift painful?
Local anaesthetic is used to numb the treatment area. You'll feel pressure during thread insertion but pain is generally well-managed. Mild discomfort, tenderness, and tightness follow the procedure for several days.
How long do results last?
Result duration varies between individuals — generally 12–18 months. The threads themselves are absorbed over 6–9 months, but the collagen stimulation effect persists for longer.
What's the downtime?
Most clients return to non-physical activities within 2–3 days. Visible swelling and bruising typically resolves within 7–14 days. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 2 weeks; facial treatments avoided for 4 weeks.
Am I a suitable candidate?
Thread lift works best for mild to moderate skin laxity. If your laxity is significant, your doctor may recommend a different treatment approach or refer you to consider surgical options. Suitability is assessed during a detailed consultation including a review of your medical history.
What are the risks?
Despite being non-surgical, thread lift carries surgical-level risks including infection, thread migration or visibility, asymmetry, prolonged swelling, and rare more serious complications. All risks are discussed during consultation before any decision to proceed.
How much does thread lift cost?
Cost depends on the number of threads required and the areas treated. We discuss pricing transparently during consultation, with no obligation to proceed.
Can I combine thread lift with other treatments?
Combinations with anti-wrinkle injections, fillers, or skin treatments are sometimes appropriate. Your doctor will discuss whether a combined approach is suitable for your goals.
